Buy-to-Open model
For the collections Cours Spécialisés, Panoramas & Synthèses et Séminaires et Congrès, the SMF has recently opted for a new business model called « Buy-to-Open » (B2O for short). This model promotes open science and consists of a threshold principle (exactly as in the S2O model for journals): when sales of a given volume reach a certain number, the electronic version of that book is available free of charge on the SMF website. The paper version can still be purchased. This model, which opens the collection conditionally to a sufficient support, makes possible the access to its content to a wide audience while preserving the publisher’s economic equilibrium.
Since June 2022 and the beginning of B2O, the SMF collections have been thus partially open.

The electronic versions of books published before 2020 can be downloaded for free on the SMF website.

Sales counters have been set up for books published after 2020.
