Pour ne pas oublier la disparition d'Ibni Oumar Mahamat Saleh

Le décès du Président du Tchad (20 avril 2021) a été l'occasion pour le Président de la République Française de rappeler la participation active des forces armées tchadiennes à la lutte contre le terrorisme dans les pays du Sahel dont la France est partie prenante. Toutefois, cela ne doit pas nous faire oublier que, il y a plus de 13 ans, le 3 février 2008, Ibni Oumar Mahamat Saleh, mathématicien à l’université de N’Djamena et porte-parole de l’opposition démocratique, a été enlevé à son domicile à N’Djamena par des forces armées militaires tchadiennes. Il est presque certainement mort décédé dans les jours suivants. Les circonstances de son enlèvement et de sa disparition n'ont jamais été élucidées.

Le Prix « Ibni Oumar Mahamat Saleh » a été créé dès 2009 par nos trois sociétés savantes pour que la mémoire de notre collègue reste vivante et pour poursuivre son engagement  en faveur des mathématiques en Afrique. Annuel jusqu’à 2017, il est maintenant attribué tous les deux ans à de jeunes mathématiciens ou mathématiciennes d’Afrique Centrale ou  d’Afrique de l’Ouest. Il peut financer un séjour scientifique de quelques mois, grâce une souscription.
 
Nous n’oublions pas Ibni Oumar Mahamat Saleh et nous continuons à demander aux autorités tchadiennes et françaises que toute la vérité soit faite à son sujet.

The death of the President of Chad (April 20, 2021) gave the  opportunity to the President of the French Republic to recall the active participation of the Chadian armed forces in the fight against terrorism  aside French forces in the Sahel region.

However, this should not make us forget that, more than 13 years ago, on February 3, 2008, Ibni Oumar Mahamat Saleh, mathematician at the University of N'Djamena and spokesperson for the democratic opposition, was abducted from his home in N'Djamena by Chadian military armed forces. He almost certainly died  in the next few days. The circumstances of his kidnapping and passing have never been clarified.

The “Ibni Oumar Mahamat Saleh” Prize was created in 2009 by our three learned societies to keep his memory alive and to continue his commitment to mathematics in Africa. Annual until 2017, the Ibni Prize is now awarded every two years to young mathematicians from Central and West Africa. It can finance a scientific stay of a few months, thanks to a subscription.

 We do not forget Ibni Oumar Mahamat Saleh and we continue to call for truth the Chadian and French authorities.
